Manikchhari Upazila, September 17, 2025-
The Greater Chittagong Hill Tracts Hill Students’ Council, Democratic Youth Forum, and Women’s Self-Defense Committee, Manikchhari Upazila branch, have submitted a memorandum to the Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Upazila Executive Officer of Manikchhari.
The memorandum demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of six terrorists who were captured by villagers in Tablapara, a border area between Manikchhari and Guimara under Khagrachhari district, but were later released by the army.
This morning, Wednesday, 17 September 2025, they submitted the memorandum through the Manikchhari Upazila Executive Officer.
In the memorandum they put forward five demands.The demands are:
a) The six terrorists who were detained by villagers in Tabalapara on the Guimara–Manikchhari border and subsequently released by the Guimara Brigade must be immediately re-arrested and punished through legal process.
b) Soldiers of the Guimara Brigade who were involved in releasing these six terrorists must be punished.
c) Appropriate compensation must be paid to those injured in the army’s attack.
d) The army must stop patronising the masked “Thyangar” group (Thyangar mukhosh bahini) that has been protected for nearly eight years, and the Thyangar group must be disbanded.
e) Searches, looting, harassment of hill people at night under the pretext of searching for terrorists, the conversion of school buildings into army camps in the name of operations, and the detention of innocent villagers must be stopped.
